       Popular culture is an area of culture that can be understood by representatives of all social strata and groups and is widely spread in society, including among young people. Popular culture is characterized by a reliance on the generally accepted in the social and aesthetic sense, it appeals to the ordinary consciousness, and its assimilation does not require special knowledge and skills. An essential feature of popular culture is its focus on accompanying leisure activities, its main function is entertainment.  The term "mass culture" covers various cultural products, as well as the system of their distribution and creation. First of all, these are works of literature, music, visual arts, films and videos (fiction, comics, pop music, thrillers, blockbusters, posters, etc.). In Addition, these include examples of everyday behavior and appearance. These products and samples come to every home thanks to the media, through advertising, the fashion Institute. 

       Accessibility and recognition have become one of the main reasons for the success of mass culture. They even talk about its primitiveness. But the easiness of these works was largely due to the objective conditions that brought mass culture to life. The difficulty of adapting to an unusual urban environment, monotonous, exhausting work at an industrial enterprise increased the need for intensive rest, rapid recovery of psychological balance, and energy after a hard day's work. To do this, people searched for bookstores, movie theaters, and the media, primarily for easy-to-understand, entertaining performances, films, and publications. A product created within the framework of mass culture is a product intended for mass sale. To do this, the product must be democratic, i.e. it must be suitable and liked by a large number of people of different gender, age, religion, and education. Therefore, manufacturers of such products have become focused on the most fundamental human emotions. It is not by chance that the 1950s and 1960s — the heyday of mass culture-are called the "pop decade" in the West, and one of the brightest manifestations of mass culture associated with fashion, advertising, television, the Institute of "stars" — "pop art" ("popular art"), the first samples of rock music-"pop music".

     The emergence of pop culture on the world stage has brought a new wave of ideas and brought them to life: in music, cinema, literature, fashion, media, advertising, cooking, sports, tourism and design.

     "Icons" of pop culture, in turn, were divided into " centenarians "(whose popularity passes "from father to son») and "one-dayers" (which are quickly forgotten). One way or another, but thanks to their existence, pop culture forms a new way of communication between people in everyday life (for example, funny, bright lines and phrases from commercials and TV shows, the verbal thought of politicians and other public figures, which immediately becomes on everyone's lips). In the 1950s, the prefix "pop" was used exclusively among jazz musicians, but soon began to denote light dance music in the style of "rhythm and Blues". Its commercial version-rock and roll has become extremely popular, and at this time again updated and acquired a fashionable shade of "retro". 

       Serious study of pop culture began only in the 60s, when British pop music (the Beatles ' Liverpool Quartet) and the American hippie movement broke into youth culture, which brought the language of the form "flower-power" (translated as "the power of flowers")-they influenced graphic design, fashion and furniture in an experimental style. The game of bright, almost acidic colors is captured on the canvases of artists and old posters in the style of pin-up. As a result, "pop art" appeared – a new trend in art. 


        British literary critic and thinker Frank Raymond Leavis, author of the 1933 book "Culture and the Environment", argued that mass culture is a visible proof that culturally humanity is declining. Leavis and his many followers were of the opinion that standardization and mass production were ruining culture. 

        One of the most significant figures working in this genre is the world-famous artist Andy Warhol. This is what the famous artist himself thought about his art:"I paint pictures this way, and not otherwise, because I want to be a machine, and I feel that what I do, like a machine, is what I want to do." He appeared in 1962 with his sensational works " Green Coca-Cola bottles "and "Campbell's soup Cans", which instantly made him the Central or at least the most discussed figure in pop art.

Protecting cultural diversity in the age of globalization "(Arts Under Pressure: Protecting Cultural Diversity in the Age of Globalization), argues that the talk that cultural exports have become exports of cultural "garbage " is not true. Unlike any other goods, cultural goods cannot be forced to buy: a person will not listen to music that they do not like, and they will not be put behind a book that disgusts the reader. Therefore, according to Smiers, "mass culture" is absent in nature: there are only works of art that are produced and distributed on a mass scale. However, this mass character exists only as long as this sample of culture is in demand: fashion is rarely durable, and true art never goes out of fashion.

  1. A simple and competent explanation to the reader of what is called popular culture. British literary critic and thinker Frank Raymond Leavis has an interesting idea that pop culture and mass food only destroy human culture in general, and I want to agree with his statement. The deliberate simplification of art for better understanding on the part of the consumer and, accordingly, its better sale, deprives talented unknown authors of the opportunity to create. Pop content creators take most of the market and profits, while unknown creators, not having such popularity and financial support, are forced to abandon creativity and engage in conjuncture in order to stay afloat.

  2. In my eyes, pop culture can be considered a signifcant factor in defining the traits of an entire generation. Whenever people mention the 60s, the first thing that people think about are the Beatles and the Hippie movement. Pop culture indefinitely influence the evolution of fashion, arts, and overall aesthetic and continues to do so until this very day. It is truly fascinating how one can of Campbells soup can change the course of history.
